Soy Sauce Crab in Hongdae on an Autumn Evening

An autumn evening in Hongdae

When October nights turn cool, a warm bowl of rice sounds just right. Ganjang gejang (soy sauce crab) is known in Korea as "rice thief" because it makes you keep reaching for more rice.

Autumn males, spring females

In Korea, blue crab is often said to be at its best in two seasons. Autumn is known for firm, meaty male crabs, and spring for females with roe. This week, the crab at GEON comes from the west coast of Korea.

A tip from this week's guests

We've had many guests from Taiwan and Hong Kong lately, and one tip came up this week. Gently scrape the roe and the crab "butter" inside the shell with chopsticks, then mix it into your rice. If you're unsure about raw seafood, our Kkotgetang (Korean crab stew) is cooked.

Easy to find from Hongik Univ. Station

GEON is at B1, 16 Wausan-ro 29ma-gil, a 5-minute walk from Exit 7 of Hongik Univ. Station. We're open every day 11:00–22:00, last order at 21:00, with no break time. Solo diners and takeout are welcome, and the menu has English, Chinese and Japanese labels. A review event is running as of late October. Groups should book ahead on Naver. There is no parking.
